Fiber Security: Intrusion detection, prevention and protection solutions
Optical communication over fiber optics is considered by many to be inherently more secure than copper or wireless communication. In practice, tapping a fiber link for the aim of eavesdropping is very easy and can be done quickly and efficiently using low-cost commercial accessories. The easiest way is to bend the fiber and then collect the light that is emitted from the bend in the fiber. Of course, there are more efficient tapping methods, which are used by government agencies, for commercial espionage or even by terrorists.
Lynx offers solutions that detect such eavesdropping attempts and immediately issue alarms to network operators. Upon detection of tampering attempts, Lynx solutions can block traffic automatically—preventing security lapses while the threat is addressed and/or traffic is rerouted.
