LynxVISION™ is an Element and Service Management System (EMS/SMS) for managing Lynx’s LightLEADER™ network elements, optical links, and protection services, from a central remote location.
LynxVISION provides a user-friendly, Java-based, client-server, scalable management system that is based on the FCAPS model. It covers all key areas including fault management, configuration management, performance monitoring, security, and administration capabilities.
LynxVISION operates in a client/server architecture where the software is installed on a server computer, which can then be simultaneously accessed by numerous clients (located either on the server or on other computers). In this architecture, the server communicates with the network elements, using SNMP, while the client, running within an IE web browser, communicates with the server.
The LynxVISION client application offers operators an easy to use, intuitive, Graphical User Interface that covers all functions of the application.
The LynxVISION server is responsible for discovering and maintaining the inventory (LightLEADERs and cards) and the protection services within the managed network. The LynxVISION collects data from the LightLEADER elements using the SNMP protocol, processes that data and stores it. All data is stored in a database that ensures that all clients have the same view of the network. The database is automatically backed up periodically, allowing the operator to restore the database after a failure.
LynxVISION service management feature enables the operator to easily provision protection services, using a user-friendly wizard. Once a protection service is created LynxVISION enables the user to monitor the Service from a single screen, where the user can see the status of each link, the state of the service, the thresholds’ levels and the current power measured on each of the links.
LynxVISION client/server architecture scales easily to hundreds of managed services and network elements and features multi-threading to provide concurrent processing of simultaneous network events.
For small networks, LynxVISION can be deployed in a standalone configuration, with the server, and GUI client running on one platform.
For larger or rapidly growing networks or multi-user environment, LynxVISION can be deployed in a distributed configuration with the server and clients running on different platforms.
LynxVISION provides Service level operations to ensure that the operation is executed at both ends and also offers performance-monitoring data, at the Service level.
